Fashion design in a nutshell; develop your own collection from concept through to final illustrations.

This short course offers you the opportunity to develop your own unique perspective as a fashion designer in an exciting, challenging and encouraging way. It provides an introduction to the principles of fashion design with a focus on the development of ideas from research into your inspirations and interests. The aim is to demystify the design process and empower you to express yourself through fashion design!

During the course, you will be encouraged to explore your creative identity and develop a fashion design portfolio to document your creative process from inspiration to outcome. You will develop the skills needed for a career in fashion design and build confidence in your ability to communicate your ideas effectively.

It equips you with the tools needed to develop a portfolio and apply to fashion BA courses. Previous students have gone on to study at London College of Fashion or to set up independent labels.

I will help you to explore who you are and support you to express that creatively through fashion designs. You will learn about fashion theory and history, explore your inspirations and create a body of research which you will use to generate designs. You will develop skills that are essential for every fashion designer; from experimental styling to collage and idea generation, to technical drawings, fabric sourcing and fashion illustration. By the end of the course you will have a solid understanding of design process, and I hope you will be confident, empowered and ready to take your next steps into the world of fashion, whether that is in an application to a BA programme, to set up your small business or start making your own wardrobe!

  • No experience is necessary - this course is designed to take you from complete beginner to confident designer.

  • The manufacturing of your garments will require an additional period of learning. We can arrange for this - just let me know what you would like to learn and I can adapt the course content to suit your needs.

  • This course is online to make it as accessible as possible. If you require in person delivery, please do get in touch to arrange.

I developed this course to provide fashion education in a nutshell; making the knowledge I gained at London College of Fashion accessible and available. Teaching design process is my passion and this course has continued to inspire me. It is the foundations of all I have learned and sharing it is very important to me.
