Dawn J Kelso is a Glasgow based multidisciplinary maker working across clothing, textiles, jewellery, costume and image.
With a focus on handcraft and commitment to entirely natural and handmade materials, her work focuses on the relationship between land, community and making in Scotland. Taking inspiration from traditional crafts to make objects that are critical of our disconnection to nature, her work asks us to slow down, be still and meaningfully create.
After graduating with First Class Honours in BA(Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear from London College of Fashion in 2018, Dawn has gone on to expand her practice into areas bridging fine art and design, taking part in artists’ residencies in Bangladesh, Fair Isle and working as part of Glasgow’s Anam Collective.
As an educator, she works with students and young people at Glasgow School of Art, London College of Fashion and University of the Arts London to instil confidence within creative process; teaching Year 1 multidisciplinary design, supporting portfolio development for art school application, running short courses and providing academic support.
